Hawthorn Football Club
The Hawthorn Football Club was founded in 1925 and joined the league the same year. Hawthorn is a Melbourne team and play their home games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), with the club colors of brown and gold.
Nicknamed the Hawks, the 10 Premierships won since entering the league and most recently as losers beat Geelong in 2008, the Grand Final. The current team is brimming with stars such as Lance Franklin, Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell, pointing to a successful future for the Hawks.
Hawthorn in 2011:
After a season devastated by injuries Hawthorn a remarkable job to make only a few steps away from a berth in the Grand Final finish. Coach Alistair Clarkson unearthed a talent Isaac Smith, Paul Puopolo, Liam Shiels, Shane Savage, Matt Suckling and Luke Breust beat the Hawks, it gets even better with more games under his belt.
Winner of 2011 Hawthorn best and the fairest: Sam Mitchell
Sam Mitchell had a wonderful 2011 season and finished in the Brownlow Medal seconds with 30 votes, although he was not eligible for suspension. He finished the season with 701 sales, 12 goals, averaging more than four a game pack.
